Full stack engineer is the default engineering hire at startups and the most variable title in tech postings. At a seed-stage company it means everything: frontend, backend, database, deploys, and the pager. At a mid-size product company it usually means feature work across a defined stack with platform teams handling infrastructure. At larger companies, "full stack" postings are often frontend-heavy product roles with API work attached. The dominant 2026 posting stack is TypeScript end-to-end: React or Next.js on the frontend, Node on the backend, PostgreSQL underneath, deployed on one of the major clouds or a platform like Vercel.
