Program Manager Jobs Hiring Now (June 2026)
Program managers run multi-project programs with broader scope and longer horizon than a single project. The role demands strong systems thinking and cross-team alignment.
Program Manager market snapshot
Live from PrismCV's job catalog. Salaries reflect postings that publish a range; remote share excludes postings without a location tag.
Program manager is one of the most overloaded titles in hiring, and the postings under it describe genuinely different jobs. Operations program managers run process rollouts, supply-chain initiatives, and site-by-site change at companies like marketplaces and logistics networks. Business program managers run planning cycles, rhythm-of-business, and cross-functional initiatives for an org or an executive. Launch and readiness program managers coordinate everything around getting something out the door. Transformation program managers run multi-year change with steering committees and budgets. Technical program manager is a separate market with its own loops and is covered on its own page. Read the team, the sponsor, and the deliverables in the posting, not the title.
The 2026 market is tougher on pure-coordination roles than it used to be. Flatter organizations have cut layers whose output was status aggregation, so postings increasingly ask program managers to own an outcome, not just a process: a cycle-time number, an adoption target, a cost line. Data self-sufficiency shows up as an explicit requirement far more often than before, with SQL and dashboard tools (Tableau, Looker, Power BI) named in the JD. AI tooling appears as an expectation that you use it to compress status synthesis, meeting notes, and document drafting, not as a separate skill. A large share of new program postings are themselves about change: AI-adoption programs, operational-efficiency programs, and system consolidations all need someone to run them.
Seniority is visible in posting language. "Support program execution" and "maintain trackers" describe coordinator-level work regardless of the title on the req. "Own a program end to end" with named cross-functional partners is mid-level. "Design the program," "build the operating model," "manage a portfolio," or "stand up the PMO" signal senior and principal scope. Also note whether the role is embedded in a business team or sits in a central PMO; embedded roles trade breadth for influence and the day-to-day differs more than the JDs suggest.
Warning signs worth respecting: a posting with no named executive sponsor or business outcome usually means a status-reporting role with a better title. A program manager role inside a marketing org is often campaign operations; great work, different job. A JD that lists every methodology at once suggests a process-heavy environment still arguing about its own operating model. And a responsibilities list that is mostly meeting facilitation tells you what the calendar will look like.

Frequently asked questions
Depends on the segment. Enterprise, government contractors, healthcare, and defense frequently list PMP or PgMP as required or preferred, and an ATS may screen on it. Most tech companies do not weight certifications heavily and care more about scope and outcomes. If you are targeting the first group, the certification is worth the investment; if the second, your time is better spent making one program story airtight with numbers.
In well-written postings, project roles own a defined-scope delivery to a date and budget, while program roles own a portfolio of interdependent workstreams against a longer-horizon outcome, usually with an executive sponsor. In practice many companies blur the titles, so read for the tells: multiple workstreams, steering committees, operating-model design, and change management language all indicate genuine program scope.
Build the evidence before the title: volunteer to run the cross-project dependency review, own an initiative that spans more than one team, or stand up an operating mechanism your org lacks. Then frame your resume around that scope. Hiring managers promote the title when the bullets already describe program work: multiple concurrent workstreams, a sponsor relationship, and an outcome bigger than any single delivery.
