Financial analyst is a title that spans several genuinely different jobs. At a large corporate it usually means FP&A or business-unit finance: forecasting, variance analysis, and partnering with operating leaders on budgets. At a startup it often appears as strategic finance, blending FP&A with analytics, unit economics, and board-deck work. On the investment side the same title means research, valuation, and thesis work at funds and banks. The day-to-day, the interview loop, and the career path differ substantially between these, so read the team description and the deliverables list, not the title.

The 2026 stack expectations are visible in postings. Excel depth is assumed and rarely tested directly anymore; what gets listed is SQL, a BI tool (Power BI, Tableau, or Looker), and increasingly a dedicated planning platform (Anaplan, Pigment, Workday Adaptive Planning, or Oracle EPM). AI tooling shows up as an accelerant expectation for commentary drafting and data preparation rather than as a separate skill. A posting that names its planning platform and warehouse is telling you exactly what to put at the top of your skills section.

Seniority is legible in the verbs. "Support the monthly forecast" and "assist with the annual budget" are junior postings regardless of the title attached. "Own the forecast," "lead the planning cycle," or "act as finance business partner to the VP of operations" signal senior scope. Postings that combine full forecast ownership with month-end close responsibilities and systems administration usually describe a team of one; that can be a fast way to grow, but ask directly how the work is split before accepting.

A few warning signs are worth respecting. A "financial analyst" posting where the responsibilities are mostly journal entries, reconciliations, and close tasks is a staff accountant role wearing an analyst title; fine if you want the accounting track, misleading if you want FP&A. A posting that names no systems at all often means an all-manual Excel environment. And investment-side postings that emphasize nights-and-weekends availability are telling you the hours expectation up front.

Use the listings below as your inbound feed. PrismCV crawls the major boards and de-duplicates across them. Check the live salary data above for what postings in this role currently advertise, and run the ATS Checker against any posting you are serious about: finance recruiters lean heavily on keyword screens, so the score gap is usually fixable before you apply.

Frequently asked questions

Large corporates post on LinkedIn and their own Workday or Greenhouse boards. Startup strategic finance roles cluster on Wellfound and tech-focused boards. Staffing firms (Robert Half, Michael Page) carry a meaningful share of contract and interim finance roles. Investment-side roles flow heavily through recruiters and referrals rather than open postings. PrismCV aggregates across the open boards so you do not have to monitor each one.

For corporate FP&A: no, and many hiring managers weight a strong modeling track record over the charter. For equity research and asset management: CFA progress is often an explicit screen. If you are mid-program, list the exact level passed; it signals discipline even in corporate seats where the charter is not required.

It is one of the most common transitions and hiring managers know the path. Reframe close work as analysis: the variance you investigated, the accrual error you caught, the reporting you automated. Add forward-looking work wherever you can get it (budget support, forecast inputs), and pick up SQL or a BI tool to close the data gap. Target business-unit finance roles first; they value accounting fluency more than central FP&A teams do.
