The Company

Founded in 2025 by Sam Rogers, who grew up managing 6,000 head on a North Queensland cattle station, Brumby builds autonomous drones that move and monitor cattle across the world’s largest properties. We’re replacing helicopters and motorbikes with drones that herd cattle, count herds, and monitor pasture on their own. Helicopter mustering is expensive, dangerous, and still misses cattle. Our drones launch from a dock, fly the paddock, do the work, and come home.

We went through YC (W26) and raised a seed round from the best investors in the valley. Our team is small and highly technical, and we’re already working with some of the largest ranches in the world. We’re based in Sydney, but our aircraft fly over some of the most remote country on earth. Expect to spend your days in the operations centre, in the workshop, and occasionally out on a station. We work hard because our ranchers do.

We now fly our own hardware, a purpose-built fixed-wing VTOL designed from the ground up for long-range work over cattle country. We are looking for a Remote Pilot to operate and monitor it from our Remote Operations Centre in Sydney. This is our first dedicated pilot hire, and you will help shape how Brumby runs flight operations as the fleet grows.

The Role

From our Remote Operations Centre in Sydney, you’ll oversee missions flying over cattle stations thousands of kilometres away, watching over aircraft as they launch from the dock, muster and count cattle, inspect fence lines and water troughs, and come home.

This is not a typical job. Our aircraft is still evolving, so you’ll be flying new hardware as it comes off the bench, and your feedback will go straight to the engineers building it. When the aircraft aren’t flying, you’ll be hands-on in the workshop, helping prep, wire, and repair them.

Flights often start from 4AM and run on weekends, so you’ll need to be comfortable with an operational roster rather than a nine-to-five. As we move towards one pilot supervising multiple aircraft at once, you’ll help build the procedures that make that safe.

What we’re looking for

Must-haves

• You hold a current Remote Pilot Licence (RePL)

• You have a 25kg powered lift endorsement on your RePL

• You’re comfortable working early starts and weekends

• You stay calm and make sound decisions when things don’t go to plan

• You’re based in Sydney, and able to work on-site at our Remote Operations Centre in Alexandria

Strong advantages

• You’ve worked in a remote operations centre (i.e. mining, or another 24/7 operation)

• You’ve passed the IREX or BVLOS OCTA examination

• You’ve served as a Chief Remote Pilot, or worked closely with one

• You’ve done test flying on new or experimental aircraft

• You’re handy with electronics, whether that’s soldering, crimping or wiring

The Work

• Flying and supervising BVLOS missions over cattle stations from our Remote Operations Centre

• Pre-flight checks, mission monitoring, and responding to anything unexpected in the air

• Test flying new aircraft, hardware, and software, and feeding back to engineering

• Hands-on prep, maintenance, and repairs on our aircraft fleet

• Helping build the flight operations procedures that let us scale to more aircraft per pilot
