MTS - Mobile Engineer (iOS)
Aside · San Francisco, CA, US / Remote
Job Description
About Aside
Aside is an AI browser that gets real work done across the websites you already use. It uses your browser session to operate email, dashboards, internal tools, docs, and spreadsheets, and can keep working on tasks that take minutes or hours.
Its browser agent scores 99.0% on Mind2Web, 40% smarter than Claude Cowork with Opus 4.7. Aside runs local-first, with memory and data protected on the user’s device.
After our viral launch in June 2026, we reached 20K+ users and 3M+ views within two weeks. We’re backed by Y Combinator and angels including Dane Knecht of Cloudflare.
The Context
Aside currently lives where most work happens: the desktop browser. But you should not need to sit at your desk to start a task, check its progress, approve an action, or use the result. We need an engineer who can build this new surface from scratch and own it end to end.
The Role
You will build the Aside iOS app from the ground up. You’ll own the product experience, the architecture, the remote connection to a running browser session, and the systems that stream task updates and results back to the phone in real time.
You will:
- Build the core mobile product. Let users start tasks, follow progress, review or approve actions, and use the result from anywhere.
- Make remote sessions feel reliable. Design the networking, state synchronization, reconnection, notifications, and recovery paths required for long-running browser tasks.
- Use the full Apple platform. Explore widgets, Live Activities, App Intents, Shortcuts, share extensions, push notifications, and background execution wherever they make the product more useful.
- Craft a polished native experience. Make every interaction fast, clear, accessible, and at home on iOS.
- Build with users. Talk to them, understand what they need away from the desktop, and turn those insights into shipped product.
What we’re looking for
- Apple platform mastery. You have shipped consumer iOS apps at scale. You know what Apple’s APIs actually do, not just what the documentation claims.
- Swift and SwiftUI depth. You are comfortable with modern concurrency, networking, persistence, background execution, and the tradeoffs of native app architecture.
- Systems rigor. You can reason about unreliable networks, distributed state, partial failure, and recovery without losing sight of the user experience.
- Platform thinking. You think in primitives, not just features. You build solutions that solve today’s product needs while unlocking future use cases.
- Product craft. You care about interaction details, performance, accessibility, and the difference between an app that works and one people want to use every day.
- Proactivity. You create your own tasks. When something breaks or feels below the bar, you propose a solution and ship the improvement as if the product were your own.
We care more about what you have built than where you built it. Send us live apps, App Store links, prototypes, or anything else that shows how you think and build.
How we work
- We’re a small, talent-dense team. Everyone has broad ownership.
- You'll work directly with the founders.
- You’ll directly talk to users through our community and interviews.
- Our office is based in San Francisco.
- We can help on housing (we have co-living house) and visa (depends on the situation).
