Job Description

About Flexport:

At Flexport, we believe global trade can move the human race forward. That’s why it’s our mission to make global commerce so easy there will be more of it. We’re shaping the future of a $10T industry with solutions powered by innovative technology and exceptional people. Today, companies of all sizes—from emerging brands to Fortune 500s—use Flexport technology to move more than $19B of merchandise across 112 countries a year.

The recent global supply chain crisis has put Flexport center stage as we continue to play a pivotal role in how goods move around the world. We are proud to have the support of the best investors in the game who believe in our mission, solutions and people. Ready to tackle global challenges that impact business, society, and the environment? Come join us.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a Staff Product Manager to own strategy across Ops Tech—the operational backbone of Flexport's freight forwarding business—and lead the build of an AI-powered freight operating system that automates the majority of work our operators do today. This is not a single-feature role, and it's not incremental tooling. You will define the vision for how multiple operational product surfaces work together across the shipment lifecycle—from exception handling to end-to-end task automation—then execute against that vision with a high degree of autonomy.

This role sits at the intersection of product, operations, and business outcomes. The systems you build will directly move Flexport's cost structure, throughput, and service quality, so you'll be measured not by features shipped but by the operational and financial impact you realize. You'll also be reengineering how the business runs: designing the product often means redesigning the operating process itself, and persuading operations and commercial leaders to adopt a new operating model. Think of it as equal parts product management, process engineering, and internal consulting—at a scope that spans multiple engineering teams and other PMs.

You will raise the bar for the PM team through mentorship, better frameworks, and sharper thinking on the hardest product problems we face. This is a role for someone with deep product experience, strong analytical instincts, and the ability to operate at both the strategic and execution level in a complex, data-rich environment.

What You'll Do

  • Own the vision and strategy for the AI-powered freight operating system. Define how multiple operational surfaces work together to automate work end-to-end—identifying the highest-leverage workflows, sequencing investment, designing AI/automation solutions that handle them, and progressively removing humans from the loop while improving accuracy and speed.

  • Drive business impact, not just product output. Tie every initiative to a measurable business result—cost savings, productivity per operator, cycle time, error reduction, margin. Define the metrics, instrument them, and own the P&L-level outcomes of what your domain ships.

  • Reengineer operations, don't just digitize them. Map and redesign the underlying operational processes before automating them. Bring strong process-engineering and consulting skills to challenge how work is done today and influence operations and commercial stakeholders toward a new, leaner operating model.

  • Own your domain end-to-end, from problem discovery and process diagnosis through launch, adoption, and iteration across the workflows and teams in your area.

  • Partner deeply across functions—Engineering, Design, Operations, Commercial, and regional leaders—to align competing priorities and translate complex, multi-step logistics workflows into automated, intuitive systems delivered as cohesive experiences.

  • Use data to set direction, not just measure results. Build metrics frameworks that connect automation rates, operator adoption, product health, and business outcomes, and use them to guide where to invest next across your domain.

  • Represent your domain in leadership forums, influencing resource allocation and strategic direction for how Flexport's operations scale through software and AI.

  • Mentor PMs on the team: raise the bar for how we write specs, prioritize, communicate trade-offs, and ship.

What You Should Have

  • 8+ years of product management experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to own a product domain (not just a feature or single product area) and drive outcomes across multiple teams.

  • A track record of building products that delivered quantifiable business impact (e.g., cost reduction, automation of manual work, throughput gains)—and a default of measuring success in business terms, not feature counts.

  • Demonstrated operational process engineering and consulting ability: you can diagnose how a complex process works, redesign it, and influence stakeholders to adopt a new operating model.

  • Experience building automation, workflow, or AI-powered products that replaced or significantly reduced manual human effort.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills. You build metrics frameworks, write your own queries, and use data to settle debates. SQL proficiency required.

  • A track record of shipping intuitive UX in data-dense, complex domains where the user workflow spans multiple steps or systems.

  • Experience aligning cross-functional teams (engineering, design, operations, commercial) around a shared roadmap when priorities compete.

  • Proven ability to operate at the strategy level (where should we invest, and why) and the execution level (what ships this quarter, and what does "done" look like) in the same week.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, especially the ability to frame trade-offs, present recommendations to senior leadership, and create clarity in ambiguous situations.

  • Experience mentoring or leading other PMs, formally or informally.

  • Experience with B2B workflow software, supply chain platforms, or logistics technology is a plus.

  • Experience in logistics, freight forwarding, or supply chain operations is highly desirable.
