Job Description

About Andco

Andco gets police, insurance, and medical documents for plaintiff law firms so they can move cases faster and scale without overhead. A case only moves as fast as the records, reports, and requests behind it, and too much of that work still runs through fragmented email, PDFs, portals, phone calls, and spreadsheets.

We are building the operating layer that makes that work faster, clearer, and more reliable.

The role

We're hiring a Founding Engineer to help build Andco from the ground up. You'll own meaningful parts of the product and stack, moving from customer problems and product decisions to system design, backend services, data models, integrations, and polished user experiences.

This is a generalist role for someone who likes working end to end. You do not need to be equally strong in every area, but you should have solid engineering fundamentals, real depth in backend and system design, and the ability to cross boundaries when the product needs it.

Who you'll work with

You'll work directly with Andco's founders on product direction, customer conversations, technical decisions, and implementation. At our stage, the product is still close to the people building it, so your judgment will shape both what we build and how we build it.

We care about plaintiff law firms because the operational burden around case documents slows down teams, clients, and case outcomes. The challenge spans product, infrastructure, data, and UX: making complex, high-stakes legal and medical workflows feel simple, trustworthy, and fast.

What you'll do

  • Design and ship core workflows for Andco 2.0 with the founders.
  • Build reliable backend services, APIs, data models, and integrations for document-heavy workflows.
  • Make system design decisions around queues, asynchronous work, permissions, auditability, performance, and failure handling.
  • Build clear, fast product experiences in React/TypeScript and improve the frontend architecture as we grow.
  • Talk with customers, turn ambiguous operational problems into product requirements, and carry solutions through production.
  • Help establish the engineering foundation: architecture, testing, observability, developer tooling, and pragmatic team practices.
  • Move between large projects and small improvements that make Andco better for law firms and our internal team.

First 30 days

By the end of your first 30 days, you should understand the case lifecycle, including how law firms request, track, and use police, insurance, and medical documents.

You should be shipping with the founders, contributing to product and architecture decisions, and owning an end-to-end improvement informed by users and internal workflows.

What we're looking for

Must-haves

  • Strong generalist engineering ability and experience shipping production software across more than one layer of the stack.
  • Solid backend and system design skills, including data modeling, APIs, reliability, and clear tradeoff thinking.
  • Ability to build product UI in React/TypeScript or a similar modern frontend stack.
  • Product judgment and comfort turning ambiguous customer needs into simple, maintainable solutions.
  • Ownership in a fast-moving environment: you can scope work, make decisions, communicate tradeoffs, and finish what you start.
  • Comfort with workflow-heavy B2B products where correctness, speed, and clarity matter.
  • Thoughtful use of AI tooling to move faster while maintaining quality.

Nice-to-haves

  • Strong visual and interaction design taste or experience building design systems.
  • Experience with integrations, document processing, background jobs, or data-intensive systems.
  • Experience in legal, healthcare, insurance, logistics, fintech, or another operationally complex domain.
  • Familiarity with security, accessibility, performance, and observability best practices.

Compensation

$120k-$220k base, 1-3% equity, depending on level and fit.
