Job Description
About Faire
Faire is a technology wholesale platform built on the belief that the future is local. Independent retailers around the globe collectively represent a multi-hundred-billion-dollar wholesale market that has historically been fragmented and offline. At Faire, we're using the power of tech, data, and machine learning to connect this thriving community of entrepreneurs across the globe. Picture your favorite boutique in town — we help them discover the best products from around the world to sell in their stores. With the right tools and insights, we believe that we can level the playing field so businesses can grow and local communities can thrive.
We’re looking for smart, resourceful and passionate people to join us as we power the shop local movement. If you believe in community, come join ours.
About the role
At Faire we have a business unit focused on Retailer Growth that oversees core growth strategies from top of funnel, to onboarding, to helping Retailers get up and running to be successful on Faire. As a Software Engineer on the Retailer Growth pillar, you will work closely with product, design, data science, and marketing to build and scale the systems that power our growth - from experimentation and personalization to onboarding and lifecycle engagement.
This is a generalist role. We’re looking for engineers who are curious, product-minded, and excited to work across the stack to drive business outcomes.
You’re excited about this role because…
- You get excited about driving measurable business impact in a Growth environment.
- You are entrepreneurial and data-driven, with a strong product sense.
- You want to use technology to help independent retailers and brands succeed.
- You’re energized by experimentation, iteration, and using data to inform decisions.
- You enjoy working across the stack and aren’t precious about the discipline — you go where the problem is.
- You like solving challenging engineering problems related to speed, developer efficiency, and building tools for rapid experimentation.
What you’ll do
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, data scientists, and marketing to ship features and experiments that drive retailer acquisition, onboarding, and engagement.
- Independently execute end-to-end projects — from scoping and design through implementation and measurement.
- Build and contribute to growth infrastructure: experimentation tooling, targeting and segmentation systems, lifecycle triggers, and personalization features.
- Design and implement reliable, observable, and scalable services and APIs that operate at marketplace scale.
- Use data to drive decisions: partner with Analytics and Data Science to instrument features, design experiments, and interpret results.
- Optimize user-facing experiences for performance and conversion, with attention to the full funnel.
- Contribute to a culture of quality: write clean, well-tested code and share knowledge across the team.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of software engineering experience.
- Comfortable working across the stack — experience with frontend (TypeScript, React) and/or backend (Kotlin, Java) is welcome.
- Experience shipping features end-to-end, from design through production.
- Familiarity with experimentation concepts (A/B testing, feature flags, traffic allocation).
- Ability to work with data: comfortable reading dashboards, writing queries, and reasoning about metrics.
- Strong product instincts — you think about the user and the business, not just the implementation.
- Experience in a growth, lifecycle, or consumer product environment is a plus.
- A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Software Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- A love for technology, and an insatiable curiosity for new tools to solve real problems.
Technologies we use and teach
Experience with similar technologies is welcome — you don’t need experience with our exact stack.
- Frontend: TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Next.js
- Backend: Kotlin, Java, Guice, Jersey, Hibernate
- Datastores: MySQL, CockroachDB
- Testing: Jest, Cypress.io, Playwright
- Experimentation & Growth: Feature flagging systems, A/B testing frameworks, traffic ramping tools
- Infrastructure & Cloud: AWS (EC2, S3, RDS), Docker
Salary range:
Canada: the pay range for this role is $129,500 - $178,000 per year.
This role will also be eligible for equity and benefits. Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands, and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
Hybrid Faire employees currently go into the office 3 days per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and a third flex day of their choosing (Monday, Wednesday, or Friday). Additionally, hybrid in-office roles will have the flexibility to work remotely up to 4 weeks per year. Specific Workplace and Information Technology positions may require onsite attendance 5 days per week as will be indicated in the job posting.
