Job Description

About the Role

We are building the communication infrastructure for autonomous agents, fully interoperable with email.

The product is mature, the developer experience is strong, and developers understand its value quickly once they start building. What we do not yet have is the community around it.

You will be our first Developer Relations hire. Your job is to turn primitive from a great product that developers use into a place where developers want to gather, contribute, teach, and build in public.

You will own the relationship between primitive and the people building on it: growing the community, creating the content and programs that attract the right developers, and building a tight feedback loop between those developers and our product team.

Your work across our docs, demos, events, community, and content will be many developers’ first encounter with primitive. You will set the technical tone for how primitive shows up in the world.

About You

  • You ship what you preach.
  • You write exceptionally well.
  • You know the difference between an audience and a community.
  • You can earn the trust of deeply technical developers.
  • You think about Agent Experience as much as (and maybe more than) Developer Experience.
  • You have grown a developer community before, formally or informally.
  • You are good at finding the signal in developer feedback and turning it into useful product insight.
  • You get genuinely excited about infrastructure.
  • You understand why agent communication primitives matter, and you want to work at the layer where they are being built.
  • You have at least three years of experience in DevRel, developer advocacy, developer education, or a deeply technical role with meaningful community involvement.
  • Bonus: you have tried primitive and already have lots of thoughts.
  • Bonus: you have built a technical audience that trusts your taste.

What You Will Do

  • Build and grow primitive’s developer community from the ground up.
  • Develop real relationships with the developers building the most ambitious products on primitive.
  • Create the rituals, programs, events, and spaces that turn individual users into a durable community.
  • Help developers share what they are building through demos, integrations, tutorials, talks, and technical content.
  • Represent/host (in our own event space in SoMa) primitive at hackathons, conferences, meetups, and other developer events.
  • Build a tight feedback loop between the community and the product team.
  • Identify recurring patterns, unmet needs, and emerging use cases, and turn them into clear product insight.
  • Keep our docs, quickstarts, API references, and other developer-facing surfaces excellent as the product evolves.
  • Set the tone for how primitive shows up in the world technically.

What Success Looks Like

Six months in, primitive has a real developer community, not just a growing member count.

A core group of developers is actively building, returning regularly, helping one another, and sharing what they create. We know the developers pushing primitive the furthest: what they are building, why they chose primitive, where they are getting stuck, and what would help them go further.

The product team receives a steady stream of high-signal, synthesized insight from the community, and developers can see their feedback shaping the product.

primitive is becoming the place where people building agent communication infrastructure want to gather.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Extremely competitive salary and meaningful early-stage equity
  • Full health, vision, dental, and life insurance
  • Unlimited AI tooling budget
  • Equipment budget
  • Meals and transportation
  • Full relocation support
  • A SoMa office with a dedicated event space
