The role

We’re hiring backend engineers across several openings within MoonPay Enterprise. All roles share the same foundation of designing and operating reliable, secure, high-throughput backend services, but each opening has a distinct focus. When you apply, tell us which track (or tracks) excites you most.

Track 1: KYB / KYC & Compliance Platform

Build the systems that let enterprises onboard safely and stay compliant across dozens of jurisdictions. You’ll own services powering business (KYB) and individual (KYC) verification flows, risk scoring, sanctions and AML screening, case management, and integrations with identity and compliance vendors. The challenge is making rigorous compliance feel invisible: fast, automated, and globally scalable, without ever compromising on regulatory obligations.

Track 2: New Product Lines, starting with Custody

Join us at the ground floor of new enterprise products, beginning with Custody. You’ll design the backend for secure digital asset storage and management for institutional clients: key management workflows, policy engines, transaction authorization, ledger integrity, and audit trails. This track suits engineers who love ambiguity, greenfield architecture, and building products from zero to one with enterprise-grade security requirements.

Track 3: Blockchain, Stablecoin Issuance & On-Chain Infrastructure

Work directly with blockchain protocols to power our stablecoin issuance business and on-chain products. You’ll build and operate services for minting, burning, and managing fully reserved stablecoins across chains, develop smart contract integrations on EVM chains and Solana, and design the indexing, monitoring, and reconciliation systems that keep on-chain and off-chain state in sync. Prior Solana (Rust) or Solidity development experience is a strong plus here.

Across all tracks, experience with fiat rails, banking integrations, or payments systems is very welcome. Much of our hardest work happens where traditional finance and crypto overlap.

What you’ll do

• Design, build, and operate backend services written in Rust that process high volumes of financial transactions with strong guarantees around correctness, idempotency, and auditability
• Own features end to end, from shaping the product spec through technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring. You won’t just receive work from product: as a domain expert, you’ll help define what we build and propose the work you consider most useful
• Integrate with external partners such as banks, payment processors, blockchains, and identity and compliance vendors, and build the abstractions that make those integrations reliable
• Improve engineering quality across observability, incident response, security practices, and API design
• Collaborate closely with product, compliance, and other engineering teams across MoonPay’s global network
• (Staff level) Set technical direction for your area, mentor other engineers, and drive architectural decisions that span multiple teams

About you

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience (8+ for Staff), with a track record of shipping and operating production systems at scale
• Strong backend experience with a statically compiled language (e.g. Rust, Go, C#, C++) is a must. Deep fundamentals matter more to us than your specific language history
• Prior professional Rust experience is not required, but interest in Rust and motivation to become an expert in it are very welcome, since our services are written in Rust
• Solid fundamentals in distributed systems, API design, data modeling, and asynchronous processing
• Comfort working in domains where precision matters, such as financial systems, double-entry ledgers, reconciliation, or similarly correctness-critical software
• A pragmatic, autonomous, ownership-driven mindset. You care about outcomes, communicate clearly, and thrive on high throughput: on this team, features ship in hours to days and products in days to weeks
• Strong critical thinking, including in how you use AI tools. You know how to drive AI-assisted development productively while staying firmly in control of correctness, security, and design quality
• Interest in crypto, stablecoins, and the future of payments. Prior crypto experience is a plus rather than a requirement, except for Track 3, where hands-on blockchain development experience is expected

Bonus points

• Professional or hobby experience writing Rust (open-source contributions count!)
• Experience in fiat payments, banking integrations, card networks, or PSPs
• Familiarity with KYC/KYB, AML, sanctions screening, or regulated financial products (Track 1)
• Background in custody, key management (MPC/HSM), or institutional-grade security (Track 2)
• Smart contract development in Solidity (EVM) or Rust (Solana), and experience with on-chain indexing or node infrastructure (Track 3)
• Experience working in regulated, multi-jurisdiction environments

We move fast and expect engineers to act as product owners for their domain, not just implementers. This role is open fully remote, or hybrid from our Berlin, Germany hub if you prefer time with the team in person.

NYC Salary: $180,000 - $300,000 USD
