Job Description

SpaceXAI’s mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. Our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. This organization is for individuals who appreciate challenging themselves and thrive on curiosity. We operate with a flat organizational structure. All employees are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic and strong prioritization skills are important. All employees are expected to have strong communication skills. They should be able to concisely and accurately share knowledge with their teammates.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

We are hiring Medium Voltage Electricians to join SpaceXAI’s internal construction team supporting the rapid build-out of our data centers. This is a traveling role — you will mobilize with project teams to active construction sites, install and commission medium-voltage systems at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV, and move with the work as new facilities come online.

You will install e-house medium-voltage switchgear (MVSG), generator step-up transformers (GSUs), 15 kV and 35 kV cable, and duct bank; support hipot/VLF testing; and work adjacent to live campus buses. This is a construction and commissioning role: build new medium-voltage infrastructure from drawings and turn it over. It is not a facilities-maintenance or operating-plant role.

This is an hourly position with overtime. Expect 80% or more travel on a rotation, with per diem.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Travel with internal construction and electrical teams to project sites to install, terminate, and test medium-voltage systems, including e-house medium-voltage switchgear (MVSG), generator step-up transformers (GSUs), 15 kV and 35 kV cable, duct bank, and associated control wiring.
  • Pull, rack, land, and terminate 15 kV and 35 kV cable using manufacturer-approved stress cones and terminations.
  • Install medium-voltage duct bank, manholes, and raceway for 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV circuits.
  • Support hipot/VLF and insulation-resistance testing of new medium-voltage cable and gear: prepare, isolate, ground, and stand the work with commissioning.
  • Work adjacent to live campus medium-voltage buses under switching orders, clearances, and LOTO.
  • Read and interpret medium-voltage one-lines, physical drawings, cable schedules, and termination drawings; produce as-builts and test records.
  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA 1910.269, and SpaceXAI safety and quality standards, including switching, clearance, LOTO, and arc-flash protocols.
  • Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and operations teams to deliver projects on time with zero incidents.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and provide field feedback to improve designs.
  • Mobilize quickly between project locations as construction phases and priorities shift.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of hands-on electrical construction at 5 kV and above in industrial, data center, utility, or generation environments. Experience at 480 V does not meet this requirement.
  • Documented 15 kV and/or 35 kV terminations (termination logs, QC packages, or manufacturer terminator qualification cards).
  • Experience installing or landing medium-voltage switchgear, transformers/GSUs, and medium-voltage cable at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and/or 34.5 kV.
  • Ability to read medium-voltage one-lines, cable schedules, and termination drawings.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70E, lockout/tagout (LOTO), medium-voltage switching and clearance, and OSHA 1910.269.
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in e-houses, duct banks, and industrial environments with PPE.
  • Hourly position with overtime; willingness to work nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction and energization.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 80% or more on a construction rotation; per diem and/or housing provided while on site.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Manufacturer terminator qualification cards for 15 kV and/or 35 kV.
  • State journeyman electrician license, or lineman/substation qualification, with the ability to work in Tennessee and Mississippi.
  • Data center or industrial campus medium-voltage construction experience, including e-house MVSG, duct bank, and work adjacent to live 15/35 kV buses.
  • Switching and clearance experience on 15 kV or 35 kV systems under OSHA 1910.269.
  • OSHA 30 or equivalent construction safety training in addition to NFPA 70E and OSHA 1910.269.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; frequent overtime and weekend support is required.
  • Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights.
  • Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain.
  • Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.
  • Stand: up to 6 hours per day.
  • Sit: up to 3 hours per day.
  • Push/Pull: up to 75 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.
  • Overhead reach: up to 3 hours per day.
  • Walk: up to 3 hours per day.
  • Lift/Carry: up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.
