Job Description

The Role:

The Director, License Assurance will lead Apryse's global license audit function into a proactive, cross-product compliance program. This role will report to the Vice President of License Management and manage the team, operating model, audit processes, system requirements, and performance accountability, with a focus on establishing a scalable, data-driven program that systematically covers Apryse's eligible existing-customer base and delivers measurable business outcomes.

The Director will oversee reviews of customer software usage against contractual entitlements, including licensed volume commitments, permitted use cases, deployment and redistribution rights, royalty obligations, and reporting requirements. The team will document findings and coordinate with the appropriate stakeholders to resolve identified licensing gaps.

This role will work closely with Sales, Customer Success, Sales Operations, Business Systems, Finance, Legal, Product, and data teams to develop clear processes, reliable systems and reporting, and effective handoffs. The Director will leverage Salesforce, Apryse’ AI environment and related systems to serve as reliable records for audit activity, usage data, entitlement validation, findings, outcomes, and reporting.

The right candidate is a strategic, hands-on leader who has led a software license audit, license assurance, or software compliance function and has experience building or significantly improving audit operations. They should be comfortable leading global teams, establishing performance expectations, and working directly with customers and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop the global License Assurance team, including capacity and production planning, team assignments, coaching, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and quality standards. Align auditor capacity and production targets with coverage priorities and expected pipeline and bookings contribution.
  • Own the proactive audit program and its governance, including risk-based customer coverage and prioritization based on licensing signals, nominations, and potential exposure, as well as audit methodology, performance expectations, and success measures.
  • Define and improve the end-to-end audit lifecycle from intake and prioritization through customer engagement, entitlement validation, findings, handoff, escalation, and closure.
  • Establish standards for auditing customer software usage against contractual entitlements, including usage volumes, permitted uses, deployment and redistribution rights, royalty obligations, and current or historical licensing terms. Ensure the team can validate usage of embedded software where direct technical visibility may be limited.
  • Own business requirements for Salesforce and related audit systems, working with Business Systems, Sales Operations, and other technical teams to ensure reliable audit data, workflows, controls, and reporting and to address system gaps, data issues, and bottlenecks.
  • Maintain reporting and accountability for program performance, including capacity, throughput, aging, quality, pipeline creation, bookings contribution, and key risks, and provide clear updates to leadership on performance, staffing, process and system needs, and business impact.
  • Ensure audit findings and customer communications are accurate, professional, and documented, with clear coordination and handoffs across Sales, Customer Success, Sales Operations, Finance, Legal, Product, and other stakeholders for commercial resolution, financial reporting, contract questions, and escalations.
  • Establish a consistent operating cadence to review team productivity, audit progress and aging, quality, commercial handoffs, data completeness, reporting accuracy, and downstream business impact.
  • Extend the audit model across product lines and acquired products, including royalty workflows, customer-submitted usage data, telemetry, and other sources that can help identify where an audit is needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, an advanced degree or relevant certification is a plus.
  • 10+ years of experience working in software and technology with progressing experience involving license audit/assurance, IP/licensing operations, or a closely related audit or compliance function
  • 5+ years in a management role
  • Strong understanding of software licensing and compliance
  • Experience with end-to-end audit operations
  • Strong Salesforce or similar CRM/workflow experience
  • Strong communication skills, proven experience working cross functionally and demonstrated strong customer relations experience
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • Strong leadership, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
