Job Description

Pocket is building a category-defining platform for ambient intelligence. We need an engineer who can work across backend + frontend to ship the highest-leverage product and growth improvements - whatever moves the needle.

What you'll own

  • End-to-end projects: instrumentation → backend services → web/app UI → rollout & iteration.
  • Build and iterate on user-facing product features (activation, retention, paid conversion, core UX).
  • Design, implement, and scale backend systems: APIs, data models, pipelines, jobs, reliability.
  • Improve frontend surfaces where it matters (web product, internal tools, landing pages, onboarding flows).
  • Drive experiments: set hypotheses, ship fast, measure results, and harden what works.
  • Work closely with design, product, marketing, and support - and help unblock them with code.

What success looks like

  • Shipped features/experiments that measurably improve activation/retention/revenue.
  • Reliable systems with clear observability (logs/metrics/traces) and pragmatic correctness.
  • Clean, simple architecture that stays fast to iterate on as the product evolves.
  • High ownership: you proactively find the most important problems and solve them.

What we're looking for

  • Have strong backend fundamentals (APIs, DBs, async jobs, caching, performance, reliability).
  • Can comfortably ship frontend changes (React/TypeScript or similar), even if it’s not your “main thing.”
  • Care deeply about product outcomes and can translate ambiguity into shipped work.
  • Prefer shipping and learning over long debates; you can move quickly without breaking things.
  • 6–10+ years of experience shipping production software (startup pace preferred).

What we care about most

  • Performance and reliability by default: profiling, latency budgets, graceful degradation, and pragmatic correctness.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience running experiments / analytics instrumentation (events, funnels, cohorts).
  • Experience building internal tools that make teams faster.
  • Startup / zero-to-one experience.

Our stack (today)

  • Mobile: Flutter
  • Frontend: React (TypeScript)
  • Backend: Go + Node
  • Data: Postgres + Redis

What we offer

  • Work directly with us and learn fast
  • Direct impact on how the company operates day to day
  • High-trust, high-responsibility environment
  • Competitive compensation
