Job Description
SpaceXAI’s mission is to create AI systems that can accurately understand the universe and aid humanity in its pursuit of knowledge. Our team is small, highly motivated, and focused on engineering excellence. This organization is for individuals who appreciate challenging themselves and thrive on curiosity. We operate with a flat organizational structure. All employees are expected to be hands-on and to contribute directly to the company’s mission. Leadership is given to those who show initiative and consistently deliver excellence. Work ethic and strong prioritization skills are important. All employees are expected to have strong communication skills. They should be able to concisely and accurately share knowledge with their teammates.
ABOUT THE ROLE:
The fire protection technician keeps facility fire and life safety systems working: fire suppression, sprinklers, fire alarm and detection, extinguishers, and related life safety equipment. This is a field role. You inspect, test, troubleshoot, and support the installation and commissioning of systems that protect people and high-density computing. GPU racks and industrial processes can and do catch fire.
You will work with facilities, contractors, and the local fire marshal. You are not the design engineer of record. You are the technician who ensures the as-built system is installed, tested, and kept in service.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspect, test, and maintain fire and life safety systems (sprinklers, suppression, alarms, detection, extinguishers) and close out deficiencies
- Support installation, upgrades, and commissioning of fire protection systems: walkdowns, device checkout, punch lists, functional tests, and turnover
- Verify that installed systems stay in working order and that impairments are logged, mitigated, and restored
- Work with facilities teams, fire contractors, and the authority having jurisdiction (fire marshal) on inspections, permits, impairments, and certifications
- Read drawings, submittals, and test reports well enough to follow a job in the field and flag what does not match
- Keep inspection, test, and corrective-action records so audits and AHJ visits have a clean paper trail
- Respond to impairments, leaks, trouble signals, and after-hours issues as the site requires
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- 2+ years installing, inspecting, testing, and/or servicing fire protection systems (sprinkler, fire alarm, and/or special suppression)
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Working knowledge of NFPA standards and basic building/fire code requirements for systems you work on (for example NFPA 13, 25, 72)
- NICET certification in Inspection and Testing, Water-Based Systems, Fire Alarm, or Special Hazards
- Hands-on time with ESFR, fire pumps, preaction, clean agent, or other industrial / warehouse / data-center suppression
- OEM or vendor experience (Simplex, Siemens, Notifier, Viking, Reliable, or similar)
- Construction or commissioning experience on active jobsites
- OSHA 10/30 or equivalent site-safety training
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing to work extended hours as needed, including the current 6-day / 12-hour construction cadence
- Willing to travel to site for the shift (this is a travel-to-site technician role, not a design-office role)
