Founding Reverse Engineer
Zatanna · San Francisco, CA, US
Job Description
About
Zatanna reverse engineers APIs for software that was never supposed to have one.
Most of the world's critical workflows are trapped behind interfaces built for humans, not agents. Web apps, cloud platforms, and old on-prem systems with no API or docs are intentionally made to be accessed via UI. Up until recently, the answer for all automation was brittle UI agents that use RPA, selenium, and DOM selectors that weren’t meant for high scale, low latency workflows.
Zatanna changes that.
We reverse engineer the backend by watching how software actually talks to itself and reproduce it via clean, fast, reliable APIs for the workflows they can't afford to have break.
The Role
You will be our first hire and will help create, maintain, and host all types of APIs. We’ve built up the infrastructure and tooling to create these APIs in hours instead of weeks, and hope you’ll help get that down to minutes.
We pride ourselves on our speed to create and support any issues with our APIs, so being able to work quickly in ambiguous environments is vital. We currently handle over 1M+ requests every hour between our own and customer infrastructure, and hope you’ll help us get to 10M+ req/hour by the end of the year.
What You'll Do
- reverse engineer APIs for web-based, cloud, and on-prem software
- create and maintain anti-bot and other adversarial techniques to get around traditional “rules”
- support customers with existing integrations, adding and modifying endpoints as needed
- fixing API issues due to proxy, anti-bot, and/or other issues that can come up
- help maintain general infrastructure and be proactive in working on self-healing pipelines.
What We're Looking For
- reverse engineering background(sneaker bots, Web security, any anti-bot experience) is a huge plus
- reward-hackers. reverse-engineering is inherently an adversarial game that requires you to think outside of the box and not just regurgitate what a coding agent tells you. We can train you, but you must come in with a mindset that school doesn’t teach.
- strong willingness to learn and put in the hours to understand how we create APIs(minimum 5 days a week in office, 60-70 hours)
- someone who doesn’t care about work life balance
- new grads OK
